Environmentally Friendly – Solar Powered Radio

It really does as well as the reviews I read before buying the radio as a present! Sound quality is excellnt for a small radio – and the solar panel is large and effective enough that mains recharging is infrequent – provided the radio is left near to a “sunlit” window! The DAB tuning is a bit fiddly – but FM OK. There was talk that DAB would take over from FM – but apparently FM is to continue – which is why this model was selected!

Digital Radio – Solar Powered

This was my first dabble into digital radio and I am not disappointed….. I get an excellent array of radio stations and reception is excellent on all but a few. I have not had to recharge the radio in the past 10 days and I assume that as I have the radio on a south facing window sill, I assume that the solar charge is contributing to this…. No problems and I would recommend this radio to potential buyers….Some would say that it would be better with stereo speakers but as I just wanted a decent digital radio, this was not a problem to me…. I have other gadgets to play stereo music in super dooper sound if the need arises.

Camping Radio – Solar Powered Radio

Bought one of these for my next camping trip. Great product I would have given it 5 stars but there is a slight problem with the built in battery charger. It would not charge the Included AA batteries it would charge for about 5 minutes then light the led as though the batteries were charged they were not. They were completely flat popped them in an external fast charger for an hour until they were fully charged. Now they work and charge correctly. So if you get this issue try an external battery charger the built-in charger obviously has an issue with completely discharged batteries.

Portable Radio

Brilliant radio, sound of excellent quality, portable – everything I wanted.

Had a problem with the rechargeable batteries supplied – they don’t work. So bought some Duracell ones and everything has worked great, as per instructions.

Being using it for weeks in garden, conservatory and indoors – not used mains supply at all.
Brilliant!

Solar powered radios have advantages for remote locations where there is a need for power but no electricity immedialty available. If you go on a camping trip or you go to the beach for a day to relax in the sun. There are certainly no power sockets on the beach for you to run your radio.

If you have a radio with batteries they will work for a day, if you are going for a few days or a week you are going to need to take a big pile of batteries with you and batteries are not cheap so you will spend a lot of money. There are also places where there is just no power and it is never available and there is not an endless supply of batteries.

BUY Roberts DAB/FM Digital Solar Radio – Black

This is where a solar powered radio comes into it own, you don’t need batteries or main power, the radio is powered by the suns rays, or rather the suns rays are collected by the solar panel on the top of the solar radio. This charges the batteries inside the radio, which you then use when you turn the radio on.

You can also top up the radio by plugging it in to the main when you get home or leave it on the window ledge to charge back up so that is fully charged ready for your next trip.

BUY Roberts DAB/FM Digital Solar Radio – Black

Testimonial

By Mr. P. Williams “Dr Duran”
This review is from: Roberts DAB / FM Digital Solar Radio – Black (Electronics)
This is a great piece of kit, I’m not sure what people want when they complain about sound because I think its great for something this size and loud enough as well. Easy to use, well made. One thing you need to do is to throw away the rechargable batteries you get with it, all the bad comments on this product are related to these, throw them and get some good duracell or other good quality battery and they will charge perfectly well. The solar charging will work a treat this way. Buy it, you cant go wrong. Easy to use, all the buttons and such have a good quality feel to them, and I have ended up listening to it 5 times more than I was expecting to.

Testimonials

This review is from: Roberts DAB / FM Digital Solar Radio – Black (Electronics)
Almost bought the ‘old’ model at the same price until I read reviews, the new version is great and appears to have incorporated all the points raised by reviewers of the original model.

Overall quality is excellent, it is simple to use, sounds great and provides almost complete flexibility as regards power supply. Battery life is exceptional, even on cloudy days or indoors when the solar panel cannot operate to full potential.

This is a replacement for our existing ‘portable’ DAB radio which lasts an average of six hours using six ‘D’ batteries. You may think the price is a bit steep, but I am going to save a small fortune in batteries alone.
Update 15/02/2011
Still like new and going strong, buying quality really pays off. Last summer solar power kept it going with minimal mains charging. During the winter we’ve used in in the conservatory mainly on mains, but the solar capabilty came into its own when we had powercuts. Cannot recommend highly enough. Tom Parker (Derbyshire)

This review is from: Roberts DAB / FM Digital Solar Radio – Black (Electronics)
I bought a wind-up radio that cost about £20 and it was a total waste of money. Wind-up radios are a nice idea but the effort to wind-up every few minutes means you can never really just enjoy listening. Even if you have strong arms it is still a bit too much work to wind enough to give you 20 minutes…which I never managed even once to achieve.

Additionally, the sound fades very qickly on a wind-up radio and I stopped using mine very soon after I’d bought it. I was bought this radio as a gift and would recommend it to anyone who wishes to have a no-nonsense, quality radio.

Having three ways to power the radio is brilliant. It has a nice tone when listening to Classic FM or talk shows such as radio 4 for example. It is simple to operate and I know I will be using this radio at my allotment, when I do the decorating, for picnics, when I cook and with earphones when I go to bed. The reception of DAB is very good.

Although quite expensive to buy I think this radio will prove to be worth every penny because the cost of batteries won’t be an issue.

The instruction booklet is very clear too.

This is not a boom box, so if you want something that can blast out very high volume then this is not for you! It’s the sort of radio you want for having background chat and music as you work or play. I hope this helps you choose with confidence! Demetrakis Demetriou “DD” (Ilford, UK)
